Unlock the Power of Autism Informed Therapy
Have you ever felt that traditional mental health support just doesn't resonate with you? The pressure to talk about your feelings, the awkward silences, and the intimidating therapy rooms can make the process overwhelming. We understand these challenges, and at The Autism Wellbeing Project, we're here to help in an autism friendly way!
We recognise that the standard approach to therapy may not suit everyone, especially autistic individuals. That's why we offer autism-specific therapy designed to meet your unique needs and preferences. We create a comfortable and inclusive environment where you can truly thrive.
Here's why our autism-specific therapy stands out:
-
We understand that leaving the house or being in a therapy room can be stressful. With us, you have the option to use Zoom for your sessions. You can relax on your favourite sofa, surrounded by your pets, with a warm cup of tea or anything else that makes you feel at ease. Feel free to wear your PJs if that's what makes you comfortable. We're here to accommodate your needs.
-
One-on-one conversations can feel intense and overwhelming, especially when there's pressure to make eye contact or worry about being judged. We get it. In our sessions, you can engage in activities like colouring, crafting, or fidgeting. We can even have our conversations during a walk. And if we're on Zoom, you can start with your camera off until you feel ready. We'll communicate clearly if we plan to use silence as a strategy, so you don't have to worry about what to say.
-
Talking about feelings can be challenging, but we're here to make it as comfortable as possible. We use visuals and supports to help you navigate and understand your emotions. If it becomes overwhelming and you want to take a break or stop, we will respect your wishes and work together to explore why you feel that way.
-
Starting therapy can be nerve-wracking, and concerns about the process or what may be uncovered are valid. At The Autism Wellbeing Project, we want you to know that you're in control. This is your journey, and we will go at your pace. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness; it takes tremendous courage. Therapy can be transformative, allowing you to discover your strengths and overcome challenges.
-
It's common to doubt whether therapy can truly help you, especially if you've had negative experiences with mental health support in the past. Rest assured, we're here to support you every step of the way. We create a safe space where everything is tailored to your comfort and preferences. If you ever feel like stopping, all you have to do is let us know.
-
We understand that seeking help can sometimes evoke feelings of self-consciousness and embarrassment. Please don't worry. Our therapy sessions are entirely confidential, with only a few exceptions when it comes to the safety of you or others. During our first session, we will fully explain any limitations to confidentiality, ensuring you feel informed and secure.
You don't have to face these challenges alone. Our autism-specific therapy is designed to provide the support you need in a way that honors your unique experiences and preferences. Take the brave step toward self-care and growth by reaching out to The Autism Wellbeing Project today.
