Autism Affirming Therapy

Have you ever felt that traditional mental health support just doesn't resonate with you? The pressure to talk about your feelings, the awkward silences, and the intimidating therapy rooms can make the process overwhelming. We understand these challenges, and at The Autism Wellbeing Project, we're here to help in an autism friendly way!

We recognise that the standard approach to therapy may not suit everyone, especially autistic individuals. That's why we offer autism-specific therapy designed to meet your unique needs and preferences. We create a comfortable and inclusive environment where you can truly thrive.

Here's why our autism-specific therapy stands out:

You don't have to face these challenges alone. Our autism-specific therapy is designed to provide the support you need in a way that honors your unique experiences and preferences. Take the brave step toward self-care and growth by reaching out to The Autism Wellbeing Project today.

Funding & Payment Options

NHS Individual Funding Requests (IFR)
In some circumstances, clinicians can apply for NHS funding for therapy through an Individual Funding Request (IFR). This is usually considered where a person's clinical circumstances are exceptional and where standard NHS services have not been effective or are unable to meet their needs. Applications must be made by a healthcare professional and are assessed by an independent NHS panel.

Social Care Funding
Some people access our support through social care funding, including Direct Payments. This can allow individuals to choose autism-informed support that best meets their needs and goals..

Access to Work Coaching
For autistic adults who are employed or self-employed, funding may be available through the Government's Access to Work scheme. This can help fund workplace coaching and support to improve confidence, manage challenges, develop strategies, and thrive at work. We have experience providing Access to Work coaching and supporting people through the process.

Care and Treatment Reviews (CTR)
For some autistic people and people with learning disabilities who are at risk of hospital admission or currently in hospital, Care and Treatment Reviews can help identify community-based support options. Families, advocates and professionals can request a CTR where appropriate.

Need Help Exploring Funding?

Our team understands that funding systems can be confusing. If you're unsure what options may be available to you, get in touch, and we'll be happy to discuss possible routes to accessing support.

Worried about the cost of therapy?

We may be able to help you explore funding through Access to Work, Social Care Direct Payments, NHS Individual Funding Requests, or other sources. Please contact us to discuss your circumstances and available options.

The Accredited Therapists Directory is a catalogue of professionals who have successfully completed our Autism Affirming Therapist Accreditation. This accreditation is designed to equip therapists with a strong foundation in understanding autism, including its definition, the common experiences of autistic individuals, and how to communicate about autism in a respectful, inclusive, and affirming manner. Grounded in a neuroaffirming perspective, this training ensures that accredited therapists are knowledgeable, compassionate, and committed to supporting autistic people in ways that honour their identities and lived experiences. These therapists are independent practitioners and do not work for the Autism Wellbeing Project.
